The department of Bioinformatics focuses on methods development, data analysis, and software implementation to support in-house genotyping solutions. Rapidly growing data volumes, evolving sequencing technologies, and expanding genotyping profiles provide constant statistical and algorithmic challenges for our team.

The clinical laboratory with the attached search unit is a department of the DKMS Life Science Lab, which core services are geared toward clinical hematologists, transplant units, and research institutes.

Our department is responsible for the human resources (HR), financial and administrative functions of our business. This includes recruiting, onboarding, month-end as well as year-end closings, invoicing, budgeting, reporting, and office management. Our team is made up of professionals who are highly specialized in their respective fields of work.

Composed of Quality Management and Quality Assurance, the team ensures adherence to standards across the entire organization alongside the continuous improvement of various processes by way of persistent dialogue with various internal and external stakeholders.

As integral part of the core of operations at the DKMS Life Science Lab, the Genotyping Analysis group ensures accurate genotyping at state-of-the-art quality of all the samples that go through the high-throughput workflow. The services of the Genotyping Analysis team lend themselves to multiple projects and collaborations our lab is involved.

The core of the IT team’s work lies in providing the laboratory with IT infrastructure, including local servers, cloud services, and software.

Managing our high-throughput lab workflow, in which the majority of incoming samples are processed, is the key responsibility of the department. The high level of automation and the excellently trained staff ensure our outstanding efficiency and quality. Only this allows us to analyze an average of 7,000 samples daily.

State-of-the-art technology and advanced automation lie at the heart of the high-throughput genotyping workflow, an enterprise that sees the DKMS Life Science Lab receive, prepare, analyze and genotype around 25,000 samples every week. The Lab Technology & Automation team plays a critical role that ranges from installation and maintenance of equipment, ensuring smooth functioning, and adherence to standards. The team also programs and teaches the robots involved at various stages in the highly complex workflow alongside aiding programming, extension, and optimization of data interfaces.

The core function of our team is assuring the supply of material while ensuring optimized inventory levels for our lab. These requirements include controlling and regulating the flow of material while simultaneously assessing variables like availability, quality, price, and delivery schedules.

The Research & Development team focuses on innovations. It performs initial experiments for updates in the high-throughput HLA genotyping workflow, experiments with novel sequencing technologies, characterizes novel alleles, and conducts complex research projects in the field of blood cancer.

The overall responsibility of our department is to identify, evaluate, explore, establish and develop new business opportunities. We are a multifaceted team of experts with different backgrounds. Thereby, we work cross-functionally and in close collaboration with our management.
